The Inner City and Central Pest Attractions in Budapest

The Inner City and Central Pest comprises of both sides of the Danube near the river bank, and is more or less closed in by the Great Ring Road on the Pest side. Points of interest are mostly located within the ring road, with mainly housing estates found on its outer side. Of course the Hero's Square, our first pick, and the City Park just behind it are exceptions.

Our first two picks, the Hero's Square and Andrássy Avenue are both UNESCO world heritage sights. The former considered the most beautiful square of the city provides a majestic end to the grand eclectic boulevard.

Our next two picks, the Gellért Hill and the Castle District are Buda's two inner city hills, Gellért Hill boasting with the best panoramic view of the inner city and the Castle District with medieval charm in a characteristically Secessionist city.

The Parliament, the city's largest and most decorative building, along with the Basilica, the largest Roman Catholic Church of the city are two of the most overwhelming buildings on the Pest side.

Our next pick, the Central Market Hall is unmissable not just because of its architectural beauty, but because of its gastronomic value: local goods and authentic meals can be enjoyed in a real Hungarian atmosphere.

The Váci Street, the city's most popular pedestrian street lined by typical late 18th Century Secessionist buildings and the Duna Korzo running parallel to it take eighth and ninth place.

Last but not least the Dohány Synagogue; a Byzantine masterpiece.
