Britomart is becoming a new centre for Auckland as the transport centre has been revamped and now the area behind the station is filling up with trendy and cool bars and restaurants. Although any hotel you choose within the CBD (Central Business District) will be within walking distance of Britomart, it's nice to know what exactly is down here because it saves you trudging uphill after imbibing in one of the drinking establishments in the area. Well, OK, and it's also near the waterfront and a good place to pick up on the seaside vibe of Auckland City. Choices are varied. There are backpackers (hostels) for the backpackers such as the Nomads places and there are designer places (not too far a walk, anyway) such as Hotel DeBrett, and then there are the posh places. Yes, the waterfront is filled with rooms with views if you are prepared to fork out for them. The piece de resistance would be the Hilton Auckland as it juts out into the Harbour on Princes Wharf. A mere 5 minutes walk from the Britomart Transport Centre. As mentioned, it is not crucial to locate yourself right here, but use the Britomart area as a point of reference. This is the bottom of the hill and Karangahape Road ("K' Road" to locals) is the top. And if you'd rather be walking downhill at the end of the day you should definitely check in to a hotel in the Britomart area.
