Kids Restaurants in Auckland

New Zealanders love children and, as such, they are welcome in most restaurants. However, obviously you don't want to walk for 20 minutes to find out the restaurant you have chosen is more of a bar or only has chicken nuggets on the menu. When looking for a place in the day time, aim for cafes in particular becuase they often have a variety of finger foods such as sandwiches that will please grown ups as well as tiny people. Getting your mid-morning or mid-afternoon caffeine fix is a big part of the culture here too, so why should families with kids be left out? There are mini-muffins and biscuits (cookies) for children to sugar up on as you tuck into a slice of carrot cake and the really fun thing is to order you child what is known as a "fluffy". You sip your latte, while you child sips his or her fluffy, consisting of frothy milk and a sprinkling of chocolate, from a smaller coffee cup. How very grown-up of them, eh? For evening meals, there are a few old school family restaurants such as Denny's and Valentines, but it can be fun to try out some typical Kiwi places which are mostly run like cafes or bistros. Some, like Iguacu in Parnell, even have special features or days for kids. When you see something that looks good while youa re walking round, justs pop your head in and ask whether they are open for dinner and also find out if they have children's menus. This will give you a clue as to whether or not the place becomes more of a rowdy drinking establishment at night.
