At first glance with all its jetboating, bungy jumping and generally getting out there in the surf and sand, Auckland might seem a bit more of an adventurer's playground than the sort of place you can be romantic with your significant other. But remember, we have the sea. And what could be more romantic than watching the waves roll in and out while you sip a glass of New Zealand pinot noir and look into your beloved's eyes? But, you need to choose the right location in orfer to ensure the atmosphere is condusive to wooing. With all this in mind, it is recommended that you head down towards the water. You can go for a more stand-alone restaurant such as Hammerheads on Tamaki Drive, or get a bit more rowdy with a drink beforehand at one of the Viaduct basin bars. After settling down to some lovely seafood or local New Zealand lamb, you'll have much to talk about. But, if you need to really up the romance factor, head out to Waiheke Island. Check into a personalised B & B in the bush after imbibing of some fresh sea air on the ferry and then head out to a vineyard for dinner. My pick would be Mudbrick. It's up on a hill and has a crackling fire in the dining room. Oh, and the view? Let's just say you will never forget the sun setting over Rangitoto. Food, wine, volcanoes.
