Where are the wild things in Bangkok? No, we're not talking the sketchy Patpong neighborhood. Thailand is famous for a variety of native wildlife and for nature lovers, there is no shortage of places to see critters. These are the top zoos, aquariums and nature preserves you can find on your visit to Bangkok.
Siam Ocean World is the largest aquarium in Southeast Asia and has a great variety of aquatic exhibits including some scheduled feedings of sharks. Outdoors is the Dusit Zoo (but be aware it is not up to the standards of a Western zoo!). Other places to visit put you in close touch with the animals. Head out to Safari World for, what else, a safari within a theme park. Don't miss your chance to see an elephant at Samphran or crocodiles at Samut Prakhan. And you can pose with a big snake around your neck at the Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute and Snake Farm right in the center of Bangkok. Other sites are wide open nature preserves. Bang Pu is just outside the city and a prime birding destination. Get in touch with the Bangchak Birdwatching Club. And for the ultimate national park experience, make the trip to Khao Yai where you can find over 200 species of birds, bats, and even some wild elephants.
