Tours in Cancun

When planning your Cancun vacation, you will find that there are countless tours and sightseeing excursions to choose from. Touring the famous Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza is, by far, the most popular way for Cancun visitors to spend one of their valuable vacation days. Chichen Itza was voted one of the Modern Wonders of the World and, despite the fact that the ruins are several hours from Cancun, it definitely should not be missed.

If you prefer to visit Mayan ruins closer to Cancun, there are tours to the archaeological sites of Tulum and Coba. Tulum is a small site and can be seen in about an hour. For that reason, it's normally combined with a visit to Xel-Ha eco-park. Xel-ha and Xcaret, the other incredibly popular eco-park in the area, have many attractions within the parks. Guests to the parks can lounge on the beach, float down a lazy river, swim with dolphins, and learn about Mayan culture.

For the more adventurous traveler, the Jungle Tour, the Zipline Canopy Tour, or the Hummer Jungle Tour might be more your speed. On the Jungle Tour, you ride wave runners, or small speed boats through the lagoon, to a great spot for snorkeling. The Zipline Canopy tour allows you to glide through the jungle, on a zip-line. And the Hummer Jungle Tour combines several fun activities into one tour. On the tour, you'll visit the small Mayan ruin site of El Rey, go to Crococun Zoo, swim in a cenote (sink hole), drive a Hummer through the jungle, and stop in a quaint Mexican town to have lunch.

Many travelers also enjoy catamaran cruises, dinner cruises, and "booze cruises". Captain Hook Cruise is a favorite for families, because the boats look like authentic pirate ships and the entire staff and crew are decked out like pirates. Caribbean Carnival is Cancun's most popular "booze cruise" and caters to people that want to party and dance the night away! For a laid-back cruise during the day, the Trimaran Cruise to Isla Mujeres is the way to go. There will be drinking and partying, but it's also a suitable atmosphere for families.

Swimming with dolphins is also a popular excursion. There are several places to swim with dolphins, in Cancun, but Dolphin Discovery tours take you on a boat ride over to the island of Isla Mujeres and you swim with dolphins there. A short cruise to a beautiful island and swimming with dolphins is a combination that makes this tour so popular.

During the Summer months, whale sharks migrate to the waters near Cancun. During the season, those tours fill fast and are highly recommended. The whale sharks are not in captivity and you are able to swim side-by-side with the magnificent creatures. Regardless of whether you want to see historical sites, learn about the Mayan culture, take a cruise, or play in the water, you're likely to find plenty of sightseeing tours to suit your taste, in Cancun.
