Active Things To Do in Beijing

Staying active in Beijing isn't hard, especially when so many of the best attractions require loads of walking. Get your caffeine early and hit the pavement at these active activities around China's capital.

Naturally an active person would want to tackle the Great Wall. Did you know that the average visitor walks less than 2 miles on the wall! You can top that! Get out there in your running shoes and make us proud!

Hou Hai Lake is a beautiful and scenic walking area for shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. But in winter, the lake freezes and you can skate on the ice. In summer, rent a paddle boat and burn a few calories while taking in the sunshine.

Ri Tan Park is a beautiful and central place for a bit of Frisbee or flying a kite in the afternoon. Pack a picnic and head to the center for exercise and a snack.

A canyon outside Beijing attracts eager and active crowds. Escape the pavement and skyscrapers in exchange for a bit of nature and majesty.

Eight Sites Park offers the perfect scenery for morning tai qi, a quick jog or even a full-blow work out. Try as you might, its impossible not to feel like a child again when at the park.

The Temple of Heaven is a massive complex that takes a lot of walking and exploring to enjoy. Pull on your runners and bring a walking stick, this temple isn't for the faint of heart! The Bai Ta Si is a bit more relaxed if you are in it for the culture and religion rather than the exhaustion!

Zhong Shan and Chao Yang Parks offer respite form the city as well as a great excuse for a bit of heart-pumping activity. You'll find people playing Chinese hack-i-sack there at all hours of the day. Feel free to join in!

Finally, Nanluoguxiang is an alley full of shops, restaurants and bars. Stroll under the trees while absorbing traditional (revamped) Chinese culture and walking roughly 1k south to north (and back!) Never has getting exercise seemed like more fun!
