The road trip out to Hana can easily take a full day, but careful planning can result in a combination of joys at both Haleakala State Park and Hana. Wake up early and make the ascent to the Haleakala summit to watch the sunrise. Tour the educational center and on clear days see the big island. After leaving the state park, be sure to keep your entrance receipt, as it will allow you free entrance into Oheo Gulch in Hana.
On your way to Hana, be sure to pick up an audio tape that will point out all the top attractions, waterfalls, rain pools, etc. Our top recommendations include exploring the lava tubes at Maui Cave Adventures, swimming the pools at Oheo Gulch (Seven Sacred Pools), and visiting the black sand beach at Wai'anapanapa.
You may want to break up your trip with a stop at Hasegawa General Store. The small and charming grocery store is located in Hana town, and serves as there one-stop shop for living essentials. Pick up some food and drinks and head over to Hana Beach Park for a relaxing lunch break.
