Art Museums/Galleries in Maui

There are two main hubs for art galleries on Maui, Lahaina and Makawao. If you go to either of these towns, you will have a pick of countless art galleries to explore all within walking distance.

Lahaina has the most art galleries per capita in the United States. On Friday nights head to Lahaina's Front Street, where most the art galleries offer appetizers and wine samplings for free. Often times the actual artists are in the galleries to talk about their work. One famous gallery is that of the island artists Wyland, which paints underwater scenes around the world.

Makawao is located upcountry and the art galleries in this town tend to feature art that is based more on landscapes, views, and nature (since Makawao is not located near the water). Again, these galleries are all located within walking distance.

Lastly, you may want to head to the art gallery located at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. This gallery features new exhibits on a monthly basis. Every March the gallery showcases the best art from local amateur artists that are looking to take the step into the professional realm.
